Jesus Gonzalez is an Oregon native, who currently resides in Cornelius with his wife, Natalie and two daughters, Johanna (3 years old) and June (1 year old). Growing up playing soccer, basketball and lacrosse, Jesus didn’t discover his love for golf until his junior year of high school. He received an associate’s degree in professional golf management from the Professional Golfers Career College and bachelor in business management from University of Wisconsin-Stout.
During his time at Forest Hills Golf Course as golf professional Jesus quickly realized his passion was to grow the game of golf by teaching. Since then he has focused on evolving his ability to develop players by become a PGA apprentice and Titleist Performance Institute certified instructor.
My primary focus when teaching is to teach my students to play better “GOLF”, not to play better “SWING”. Over my past few years of teaching, I have quickly realized that to truly maximize success with my students, I needed to break the mold of normal golf “instruction” and become a golf “coach”. Far too often, lessons are strictly focused on how to hit the ball better. Don’t get me wrong; it is great to “hit” the ball better, but it often takes much more than that to break through the next threshold. The low handicaps didn’t become 0’s, 1’s or 2’s by just hitting the ball better. They did it by learning how to turn a bogey into a par or a par into a birdie; by learning to still grind out a good score when they aren’t hitting the ball well; by learning how to eliminate unforced errors. They did it by learning how to play better golf!
